How to record bass at home
You don't need a studio to record a solid bass track — just a clean signal path and honest monitoring. Here's the straightforward approach.
Plug in direct (DI)
Connect your bass to an interface's instrument input. A direct signal is clean and easy to reshape later with plugins.
Set your gain with headroom
Bass has strong transients, so leave headroom to avoid clipping. Aim for healthy but not maxed levels.
Monitor honestly
Use flat headphones so you hear the true tone, including buzzes and timing issues you'll want to fix.
